One of our projects we’ve had this past school year for Friend2friend was the Holladay cleanup/mentoring with some activity day girls, aged 8-12. Before the project, the board planned and spaced out the sections that each group would clean. In our groups we helped tidy up different sections by picking up dead leaves, pine needles, and branches. There also was quite a bit of trash which we picked up too. Different than our other activities, we had the opportunity to mentor little girls. I loved working with them and noticing the kind innocence of children! They work so hard and are so thoughtful! The idea was to have the older kids pair up and teach them, but I found that they taught me lots more about willingly working.
When I think of our small town of Holladay, I don’t necessarily think of it as dirty or cluttered, so it was very eye opening to see how messy it actually was... it’s just been hidden to our eyes. It made us think of different towns that are so much dirtier and (at least for me) helped raise awareness of how I want to help clean elsewhere.
